I’m a happily married 45 year old mum to 7 children aged 6-20. Yes we have a TV. I’m an Anglican Christian. Think Vicar of Dibley- that’s our Parish. I trained as a journalist back in the 80’s and worked in print journalism as a reporter and news editor for many years in both rural and city locations specialising in news and feature writing. I even won an award once! I’m not really a mommy blogger, not even sure what a lifestyle blog is although that’s what I mostly call my site. I was delighted to discover #Post40Bloggers - finally a place where experienced and energetic people can share knowledge, news and talent.
Post-40 Bloggers - Pokemon GO and pink flowers
I became aware of Pokémon GO when a blogger I follow on Facebook cussed out those whining and moaning about grown men and women playing this ‘live’ game which takes place outside. (It’s the same game you know and love, where you sit your butt on the sofa with...
Post-40 Bloggers - grey haired woman
So quite some time ago I wrote that I had decided to abandon the dye and go grey gracefully. Well I got a bit bored with growing what remained of the colour out and decided to go grey disgracefully instead. Let me step back a bit. I started this project back in...
Coffee rust, image credit Mad Mum of 7
I start each morning with a cup of coffee brought to me in bed by my lovely husband. I have been known to indulge in a creamy syrup laden cuppa while out and about too (yes I'd like chocolate powder on top- why are you even asking?) I have a nifty...
Twitter on mobile phone
Twitter – you disappoint me. I thought you were better than this. I thought you led the way in providing an up to the minute timeline with a random blend of people conversing. I know that it’s been difficult lately, what with spam threatening to take over the timeline with...
David Bowie, photo credit Pop Blerd
Predictably just a few short hours after the world learned of the death of David Bowie the detractors, trolls and cynics came crawling out to mock those who felt grief at the loss of an iconic figure. Admittedly, I have never felt the need to put up posters, get fan...
Paris, France
My daughter was due to travel this weekend to see her grandmother. She cancelled the trip on my advice. Normally, I would caution her against fear and contracting her life in the wake of any tragedy. However, the uncertainty about the why, wherefores and aftermath of Paris deemed it...
Man at car crash
It might seem harsh but after watching the video released this week of the two drug-fuelled boy racers who lost their lives after crashing into a wall at high speed, I fail to see how the release of this film helps anyone. West Sussex police who released the video with...
Alice Sabatini, Miss Italy, photo credit Ilroma.net
It sounds like a classic beauty queen blunder. She may not have actually said she wanted to work with children and/or animals but the newly crowned Miss Italy has attracted scorn and the fury of the pee-cee brigade by claiming she would have most liked to have lived in 1942. Yes....
Railway train
I had not appreciated previously how lucky I am, as usually I have no trouble getting a seat on the train, and my biggest gripe is that sometimes I have to travel facing backwards - which I hate. Just a couple of stops down the line, however, and I found all of...
Turkish beach
I feel sick. Actually sick to my stomach when I think about those two Kurdish boys washed up on the beach in Turkey only to be photographed and used as political pawns. I have unanswerable questions about why the family was leaving relative safety in Turkey, what their motives were...
Journalists Alison Parker and Adam Ward, photo credit Express
Two US journalists have been shot dead during a live TV report in Virginia. WDBJ7 TV reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, were killed during an interview in the town of Moneta, the TV station said. The man, Vester Lee Flanagan, an apparently disgruntled former employee of the TV...

Immigrant who 'walked almost entire Channel tunnel' appears in court. Abdul Rahman Haroun was remanded in custody and is due in court again on 4 January. Source: The Guardian. In the meantime, here’s our News Editor’s take on the situation. Ed Returning from a lovely short break in France, we...
