My name's Tim. I'm 50, live and work in Derby, am happily married (since 1988) and have two beautiful grown-up daughters who are in their early 20s. I've been blogging away quietly at www.tenpencepiece.net since 2008 covering a diverse range of topics, but with a bias towards the joys and woes of being a mature student. Post40bloggers is a welcome addition to my world as it's always great to receive encouragement, ideas and challenges from friends who also love blogging, yet have their own unique perspective on life. I'm looking forward to sharing my passion for lifelong learning with this community as well as hearing your stories. Library
My father's generation had an expectation of being able to leave school, college or university and work for a single organisation for around 40 years before retirement. Today, the average person is likely to have at least six different jobs and work for six different employers (£) over the...

Lymphoma Association
The last time I wrote, I mentioned that I’d had a #diagnosis of #lymphoma. Since then, I’ve had a more specific diagnosis given to me and a course of treatment outlined. The hospital wants to run a few more tests this week before I start out on treatment in...
Worried man
I must say a word about fear. It is life’s only true opponent. Only fear can defeat life. It is a clever, treacherous adversary, how well I know. It has no decency, respects no law or convention, shows no mercy. It goes for your weakest spot, which it finds...
P40B post - clock and books
I like a challenge. So when @post40bloggers tweeted this suggestion for something to write about earlier on this week, I started to think about what my answer might be. After all, there must be something that I’d want to change about my past? It’s a dangerous game though. Consider, for example,...
Fat mouse
… student life carries on much as normal for those of us who are on distance learning courses. This weekend I managed to submit the first Psychology of Organising assignment on time, and I’m now straight onto planning the second, which is due in at the end of August....
